Porth Mawr, Caernarfon

The recording and excavation of the East Gate (Porth Mawr) of Caernarfon was commissioned by Cadw. This included the excavation of the northern gatehouse down to an eighteenth century pitched stone surface. At the eastern end of the gatehouse a previously unknown round tower was exposed which may be the evidence for the early Edwardian gate structure.
